Weekend Wrap-up!

Had an interesting weekend.
Watched the movie Life of Pi - 3D .. Loved it .. :)
Been to the dentist ... hated it .. :(
Tried to make some Veg Pullav and satisfied with the outcome ... :)
So with 2 :) ...it was over-all a :) weekend ... :) :)

I'm no cooking wiz .. infact i'm a lousy cook .. so feels funny to be putting these recipes ... :)
Try them at your own risk .. :) :)

About the Pullav recipe .. i'm mighty impressed by a couple of shows on the traveler channels .. so decided to go with the 'from scratch' approach for the spices. Well I was not really confident to pull it all till the end so finally added just a dash of biryani masala .. :D .. what would i do without them?? ..

Gather your stuff
  • Cut veggies like carrots, cauliflower, onions and peas
  • Collect spices like laung-elaichi, ginger-garlic, pepper and bay-leaf
  • Malai (cream) and kaju, badam, pista (dry-fruits) - let's make it "shahi" (meaning royal)

  1. Heat some oil. I use the cooker directly. saves time and fuel .. :)
  2. Add the individual spices one-by-one. Using these directly sure bring out a subtle flavor
  3. After roasting it for some time, add the cut veggies and again roast it till the veggies become tender
  4. Add some malai .. at this point my confidence fails and i add a little bit of biryani masala .. :D
  5. Finally add the rice (soaked for 15-20 mins prior to using it - not sure why they do this .. lol)
  6. Top it with dry-fruits (i prefer them pressure cooked) and some saffron .. gives that beautiful color
  7. Close the lid and cook (for 20 mins) and you are done ..
